Villa St James, Muizenberg.
Villa St James, Muizenberg.
Situated in False Bay with a 360-degree view of the mountains and sea sits Villa St James; a historical national monument built in 1850. Once home to the British admiralty, the Greek royal family and Jan Smuts, statesman and one of the founder members of the League of Nations.
Today, Villa St James has been restored and decorated in a blend of collectable deco, nautical accents, African and Cape Dutch influences with modern eclectic furnishings.
Simonstown in False Bay had been the Royal Navys South Atlantic base from 1814. Later, St James and Muizenberg were the first resorts in the area to be developed by the British in the early 1900s due to its climate, its warm sea and particularly due to Muizenbergs long white sandy beach. Cecil Rhodes (the founder of De Beers and Empire Builder) started the trend when he bought Barkly Cottage in Muizenberg.
Villa St James accommodates up to twenty people in ten spacious bedrooms each unique in character, they have either sea or mountain views. A number have the added feature of private outdoor or indoor balconies.
The ground floor features an elegant dining and conference room with fireplace; the dining room table seats twenty-two. Relax in one of the two lounges and read the unique collection of old and new art literature. Further reception rooms include a TV room with a full surround sound system, a billiard room and a bar. There is also a guest suite, indoor and outdoor terraces and a grapevine-trellised patio.
The swimming pool is set in an indigenous garden with both rare and well-known plant species. St Jamess beach is a short distance away from the property, with rock and tidal pools for swimming; there is also a tennis court situated close by.
Also walking distance from the Villa is Kalk Bay village, with its quirky antique and craft shops, fine restaurants, fishing harbour, walks, and museums.
The Constantia Wine estates, golf courses, yachting, kite surfing, deep-sea fishing, shark diving, whale watching and hiking are all within ten to fifteen minutes of the Villa and dont forget the penguins at Boulders Beach. St James is convenient to Cape Towns Waterfront, Clifton, Simonstown and Cape Point; Stellenbosch and the Winelands is a 45 minute drive.
The Villa occupies an expansive 582m2 (6,265 sq ft) situated in a 1/4 of an acre garden. Fine cuisine is available by Cape Towns leading chefs and the villa is fully serviced.
Rent the Villa by the day, week, or long term for private stays, weddings, events, and corporate functions.
